Alone in my house, with only the softs snorts of my fur baby to keep me company, I can finally start to feel a little warmth return to my body. My healthy “ice cream” - frozen bananas, peanut butter, cacao, chia and sunflower seeds- has left me with a chill I haven’t been able to shake.

These are the moments when I wish I had more friends with hot tubs! Not sure a bath has the same feel-good vibes as staring up at a star-filled sky while floating around outside; though, I rest assured there’s less chemicals, bodily fluids and grime in my bathroom than there are in your average whirlpool. Plus, I have one special ingredient that makes my tub-time extra lovely; Lavender oil.

Of all the essential oils I use in my life, Lavender is my favourite. It’s so multi-purpose that it is a must-have for every home. Need some reasons to get yourself some?

20 Reasons to Love Lavender:

  • Reduces anxiety and emotional stress

  • Heals burns and wounds

  • Improves sleep

  • Restores skin complexion and reduces acne

  • Slows aging with powerful antioxidants

  • Improves eczema and psoriasis

  • Alleviates headaches

  • Useful for hair care (think lice and hair loss)

  • Improves blood circulation

  • Aids in nausea and stomach upset

  • Natural bug repellent

  • Relief for muscle and joint pain

  • Improves digestion

  • Relieves respiratory disorders

  • Stimulates urine production

  • Natural cleaning aid for the home and body

  • Fights off fatigue

  • Reduces fevers

  • Soothes sunburns

  • Relieves earaches

One important thing to consider is the vast difference between things sold in quantity versus things sold of quality. Not all Lavender oils are created equal.

One of the many reasons I am a DoTERRA advocate (although not endorsed in any way) is because of their dedication to providing superior products. They source their oils directly from the country of origin, follow a strict third-party testing protocol and use only the highest quality ingredients.

Not convinced? DoTERRA oils are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade, meaning many of them can be taken internally. (Although legally any products distributed in Canada cannot be marketed that way). This is a game-changer in the quality department as so many oils offer therapeutic benefits when ingested.

Want a few ideas on how to use your Lavender oil?:

  • Add a few drops of Lavender to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet at bedtime.

  • Keep a bottle of Lavender on hand to soothe occasional skin irritations.

  • Freshen your linen closet, mattress, car, or the air by combining Lavender with water in a spray bottle.

  • Take internally to reduce anxious feelings.

  • Use in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts.

Directions for Use:

Diffusion: Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.

Internal use: Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid.

Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired areas. Dilute with doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity.

After all this writing, I’m now ready for that bath. The only thing I like better than Lavender in my bath is Lavender accompanied by a glass of wine. I hope you are having yours now.

Wishing you a night of peaceful reflection, restorative contemplation and love; so much love.

With Love and Light,
